Due to the presence of numerous U.S. military bases, American culture has deeply permeated Okinawa. This influence is especially noticeable in the central region of Okinawa, where many shops and restaurants loved by the American community are located.
Today, I’d like to introduce one of my favorite spots in Ginowan City, central Okinawa, where you can enjoy a Philly cheesesteak sandwich, a classic American dish.

・What is a Philly Cheesesteak?
The Philly cheesesteak is a sandwich that originated in Philadelphia, USA. It’s a hearty dish made by grilling a generous amount of meat on a hot plate. The sandwich features a soft, elongated roll stuffed with thinly sliced beef steak cooked to perfection, topped with plenty of gooey, melted cheese. Adding sautéed onions and bell peppers enhances the flavor even further.
In Philadelphia, it’s common to choose between having onions or not, and the cheese options often include American cheese, provolone, or Cheez Whiz—a creamy cheese sauce.
With every bite, the juicy meat and melty cheese blend together in your mouth, delivering a truly American taste. It’s a satisfying dish that’s easy to enjoy and highly recommended!
At Stickywich, you’ll find more than just Philly cheesesteak sandwiches on the menu. Here’s another standout option: the grilled salmon sandwich.
The chic lavender-colored exterior adds a stylish touch to the place. You can park your car right in front of the shop and place your order at the counter inside before taking a seat.
From the menu displayed on the wall, you can choose your preferred ingredients and sandwich size.
If it’s your first visit, the must-try option is definitely the Philly cheesesteak!
The drink menu is conveniently located near the register.
The shop’s neon sign, also in purple, adds a beautiful and stylish touch.
The shop offers both counter and table seating, so you can relax and enjoy your meal inside at your own pace.
Although Philadelphia isn’t the setting, watching the drama series The Bear on Disney+ somehow reminds me of this place.
The show is set in Chicago, which is quite far from Philly, but the Italian beef sandwich featured in the series visually resembles a Philly cheesesteak. I’ve never tried the Italian beef sandwich myself, but it looks incredibly appetizing and definitely sparks my cravings.
By the way, this drama is absolutely binge-worthy and highly recommended. The story revolves around rebuilding a family-run restaurant alongside a cast of quirky and intense characters, led by Jeremy Allen White in the starring role. Jamie Lee Curtis, playing the mother, also delivers a fantastic performance, adding even more flavor to the series.
Stickywich, located in Ginowan City, is undeniably in Okinawa, but the American vibe it offers makes it an interesting and unique spot to visit.
I’ve been back a few times, and I have to say—the Philly cheesesteak sandwich remains unbeatable!
