Many people feel curious about solo travel abroad, yet hesitate because of worries like
“Is it safe?”
“Will I feel awkward traveling alone?”
Even as a blogger who shares travel and lifestyle stories both in Japan and overseas under @owncolorstravel , I wasn’t confident about solo travel from the beginning.
To be honest, I still feel anxious at times.
That’s exactly why I chose Fiji this time—a destination known for its calm atmosphere and sense of safety—as a beach resort where solo travelers can truly relax.
The place I visited was Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay, a beach resort famous for its overwater bungalows.
Instead of staying overnight, I decided to enjoy a different kind of luxury—simply stopping by for tea.
Traveling alone allows you to move at your own pace, to feel safe, quiet, and fully present in the moment.
At this resort, I was able to experience that feeling deeply.
In this article, I’d like to share a gentle and peaceful moment in Fiji—especially for those who feel unsure about traveling solo abroad, yet long for healing and calm.
Location of Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay
Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay is located on the west coast of Viti Levu, Fiji’s largest island.
It’s about a 50-minute drive from Nadi International Airport.
Far from the lively streets of Nadi Town, the resort sits beside a quiet lagoon—an ideal location for travelers who value tranquility and time spent within the resort itself.
I rented a car and drove there on my own.
The roads are paved, but the drive feels very close to nature.
There’s virtually nothing around the resort, which makes it perfect for those who want to fully immerse themselves in a peaceful resort stay.

Visiting for Lunch or Tea (Without Staying Overnight)

When you arrive at Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay, you’ll first pass through a security gate with staff on duty.
They will ask the purpose of your visit, so simply answer honestly.
Saying things like: “I’m here for lunch,” or “I came for tea,”
and letting them know which restaurant or café you plan to use makes the process smooth.
If possible, making a reservation in advance is highly recommended.
As a luxury resort, walk-in access may depend on availability.
That said, I made a slightly reckless decision this time.
I decided, “I’ll go if the weather looks good,” and ended up heading there without a reservation.
As expected, the security staff asked several questions—though they were extremely friendly.
Looking back, it was quite a bold move.
But honestly, I really wanted to see the overwater bungalows with my own eyes while in Fiji.
Thankfully, I was allowed in, but this experience reminded me that when visiting high-end resorts overseas, having a reservation and clearly stating your purpose is always the safest option.

The view from the hotel lobby is incredibly open and expansive, instantly giving you a sense of how vast the property is.

The Special View of Overwater Bungalows

What struck me immediately was the sense of openness and space throughout Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay.
The design is modern and refined, blended beautifully with tropical resort elements, creating an elegant and luxurious atmosphere.
Even with a short visit, the resort felt exciting and special.
Momi Bay is best known for its overwater bungalows.
While some outer islands in Fiji also offer overwater villas, this is the only resort on Viti Levu with overwater bungalows.
Although the sky was mostly cloudy that day, the calm lagoon lined with bungalows looked like a postcard.
Just gazing at the view was enough to feel a kind of non-everyday luxury that’s hard to find in Japan.
Tea Time at "Lagoon Lounge"

Spending time by the water, slowly enjoying a drink—this was one of the highlights of my visit.
At Lagoon House & Bar, you can enjoy views of Momi Bay and the overwater bungalows from the outdoor terrace.
It’s a lounge where you can truly feel the essence of an overseas beach resort.

I ordered a virgin passion fruit mojito.
It was stylish, refreshing, and full of tropical flavor—a perfectly crafted non-alcoholic cocktail.
In addition to drinks, they also offer light meals such as pasta and pizza.
The open space and gentle atmosphere made it a very comfortable place to unwind.
