This Summer’s Trip: Okinawa!

I’m a travel and lifestyle blogger based in Okinawa, sharing tips and must-visit spots around the islands. Through my blog @owncolorstravel, I aim to inspire travelers coming from other parts of Japan as well as international visitors interested in Japanese culture.

This time, I stayed at a luxury resort hotel in Onna Village, Okinawa—an entire island turned into a resort, surrounded by the ocean on all sides! It’s also now the official partner hotel of the newly opened JUNGLIA OKINAWA.

Highly recommended for your next summer getaway—check it out for some travel inspiration!

During the summer season, hotel prices aren’t exactly cheap, but I wanted a little getaway to refresh, so I searched for hotels on the main island of Okinawa and managed to book a room.

This time, I stayed at the Hyatt Regency Seragaki Island Okinawa, a resort run by the American brand Hyatt Hotels & Resorts, located in Onna Village. Prices vary depending on the season and availability, but this 4.5-star hotel usually costs around 40,000 to 60,000 yen per night.

I had stayed at the Hyatt Regency in Naha before and really liked it, but this time I wanted to fully enjoy a beach resort, so I decided to go with this one.

The Beach House

What makes this hotel unique is that it’s a luxury resort built on a small natural island. The property is divided into two areas: “The Beach House,” which is near the entrance and parking area, and “The Island,” which is connected by a bridge.

Both buildings have direct beach access, but only “The Island” side has a pool. So when booking your room, you can choose depending on your preference.

After parking, even though the distance is short, the staff takes you across the bridge to the “Island” building by cart when you check in. They’ll also give you a ride back and forth when you use the parking lot during your stay.

The moment you step into the high-ceilinged, open, and sophisticated lobby, you’re instantly swept into vacation mode. The whole space feels relaxing, and there’s even a subtle, pleasant scent throughout the hotel.

One thing I really appreciate about Hyatt is the consistently great service. The staff are friendly and professional, which makes the entire stay feel even more comfortable. If you value hospitality, this place will definitely meet your expectations.

・Room Tour Recommended: ★★★★★

I booked a Partial Ocean View Twin Room. The room was 39m² with a terrace, and even though it was labeled “partial,” the ocean view was more than enough — the view was really nice.

The contrast of the ocean against the clear Okinawan sky was just stunning!

It was really hot during the summer, so I didn’t spend much time out on the terrace, but the ceiling fan and air conditioning kept the room super comfortable.

The mineral water came in a sleek aluminum bottle — a nice touch. There was also a 55-inch 4K TV, and the desk area was simple and well-designed, which I really liked.

The room was very user-friendly, and I especially appreciated the thoughtful details — things I often find myself wishing for at hotels were already there. For example, the makeup mirror doubled as a magnifying mirror and lit up like a vanity mirror with the flip of a switch. It was compact enough to move from the bathroom to the desk in the bedroom, which was super convenient.

This is exactly the kind of mirror I’d love to have at home! Honestly, I wish every hotel had one of these — seriously! (lol)

The desk was also spacious and minimal, which made it even more functional and easy to use. Another big plus.

When I travel, I usually bring a compact travel makeup mirror like this one. I’m still on the hunt for the perfect one that’s both space-saving and practical, so whenever I come across something that really works, I’ll definitely keep sharing it.

The room also came fully stocked with cutlery, which was a nice touch.

The bathtub and sink area were clean and minimal — very well-designed.

They’ve also put thought into sustainability with their amenities. Many of the items are biodegradable and eco-friendly. The shampoo and body care products were from Pharmacopia, an organic bath and body brand born in San Francisco. On the club floor, the bath amenities are upgraded to Miller Harris, a luxury fragrance house from London. And it seems that the suites offer yet another line of exclusive amenities.

There was even a Ryukyu glass cup — a nice touch that gave the room an Okinawan vibe.

The room layout was incredibly functional, with thoughtful partitions between the sink area and the bedroom, creating a clear separation that made the sleeping space feel calm and private.

Out of all the hotel rooms I’ve stayed in recently, this one was definitely one of the most comfortable. Top-tier in terms of how well everything was designed for a relaxing stay!

I recommend booking through the World of Hyatt program, which you can join for free. One of the biggest perks is access to members-only rates, and there’s also a Best Rate Guarantee — if you find a lower price through another site, they’ll match it. It’s definitely a great way to get the most value out of your stay.

・Hotel pool and beach

The Lagoon

At Hyatt Regency Seragaki Island Okinawa, the pools are actually more of a highlight than the beach. The Gusuku Pool is a beautifully curved pool inspired by the castles (gusuku) of the Ryukyu Kingdom — it has a unique, elegant shape that really stands out.

There’s also an outdoor infinity pool called The Lagoon, which is especially impressive. It has sand on the bottom, so it feels just like a beach, and it circulates actual seawater. It’s the perfect spot to relax and take in the tropical vibes without even stepping onto the beach.

The indoor pool is actually cooler than the outdoor one, which makes it a great choice! Plus, it comes with a jet bath, steam sauna, showers, and more.

Seragaki Beach, which is directly connected to the hotel, is a perfect private beach for those looking for some peace and quiet. It’s a relaxing spot away from the buzz of the pool areas.

Marine activities like SUP and snorkeling let you fully experience the beauty of Okinawa’s ocean.

There are also jacuzzis outdoors, and even the Gusuku Pool has a jacuzzi area—so I pretty much couldn’t tear myself away from them! I spent most of my time just soaking and letting my tired body relax. (lol)

The pool area has a poolside bar, so you can enjoy drinks and food while you relax.

The poolside cabanas by the Lagoon are available for rent at an extra charge and can be used for a set amount of time.

The pool area was pretty busy since it’s popular, but there were plenty of umbrellas and lounge chairs, so you can still soak up that relaxing resort vibe.

The view from the second floor of the hotel. This isn’t a pool but a reflecting pond. From up here, you can see both the pool and the beach—it gives off a tropical resort vibe and looks amazing.

As the sun starts to set, it feels so nice to relax and enjoy the ocean breeze during sunset time.

・Hotel Shop

The shop on the first floor of the Hyatt Regency Seragaki offers a great selection of Okinawan items, including Ryukyu glass and Yachimun pottery from Yomitan Village—perfect for souvenirs.

Since there aren’t any convenience stores nearby, it’s also a good idea to pick up drinks and snacks here. For reference, the closest convenience store is Lawson Onna Manza Beach, about a 3-minute drive away.

Affordable items like Shuri soap and bath salts are definitely recommended.

Ryukyu glass vases are quite high-end, so why not start with something more accessible like a drinking glass? With their unique bubbles and vibrant colors, Ryukyu glass pieces have a handmade charm that makes them perfect souvenirs from your trip to Okinawa.

・Restaurants Near the Hotel

For dinner, I decided to eat at Kafu, an Okinawan restaurant located right across the street from the hotel.

They offer delicious dishes at reasonable prices, like Agu pork shabu-shabu, seared Motobu beef sushi, and deep-fried Agu pork trotters—all made with high-quality local ingredients.

They have both counter seating and private rooms, making it a great spot even for solo diners.

I ordered an Orion Beer along with some classic Okinawan dishes: Fu Champuru, Jūshī rice, and seared Motobu beef sushi.

The Champuru was full of flavor, and the lightly seasoned, chewy Jūshī paired perfectly with it. The seared beef sushi came with two pieces per plate—it was so good I finished it in no time and ended up ordering another round.

Here’s what the hotel looks like at night. Since the entire island is part of the resort, it gets much quieter compared to the daytime.
