Blogger @owncolorstravel, based in Okinawa and focused on travel and lifestyle, shares recommended sightseeing spots and helpful tips for traveling in Okinawa—especially for visitors from other parts of Japan and international travelers interested in Japanese culture.

This time, I’m introducing a brand-new tropical ice cream shop that just opened in the Araha Beach area in Chatan, Central Okinawa.

The shop has just made its way from Maui, Hawaii, all the way to Okinawa!

They serve ice cream made with an organic coconut cream base—perfectly refreshing for the upcoming season. Curious about what kind of ice cream it is? Check out the article below!

Coconut Glen’s is an ice cream shop near Araha Beach that I’ve mentioned before on my blog.

This beachside area kind of reminds me of Sanur Beach in Bali, which is one of my personal favorite spots in Okinawa.

Coconut Glen’s Araha location is tucked right behind the parking lot, next to a Bali-style restaurant called Poco a Poco.

What makes this ice cream special is that it’s all made with organic coconut cream—completely additive-free and dairy-free. It actually started in Maui, Hawaii, by a former Michelin-star restaurant chef.

After opening shops in Tokyo and Osaka, they’ve now brought it to Okinawa. It’s the perfect kind of ice cream for a tropical resort like this!

The flavors include their signature coconut—made with toasted coconut chips—along with chocolate, ginger lemongrass, vanilla, coffee toffee, and lychee & hibiscus.

I decided to try the ginger lemongrass, which I’d been curious about.

Since the base is coconut milk, the flavors of ginger and lemongrass come through with a refreshing, subtle aroma. You can tell they’re serious about quality ingredients—there’s no overpowering taste, just a clean, simple flavor with a super smooth texture.

It does start to melt pretty quickly while you’re snapping photos, so the best move is to dig in right away lol.

It’s already swimming season at Araha Beach, so the place was pretty lively—perfect timing for a quick snap with my ice cream.

The colorful cup really popped against the ocean backdrop and made for a great photo. The weather was a bit gloomy at first, but the sun eventually broke through, turning it into a perfect beach day.

With the gentle breeze and a coconut ice cream in hand, just sitting by the beach felt like pure happiness. Even though I was there solo, I couldn’t help but feel totally cheerful lol.

After swimming and enjoying the beach, I stopped by the shop again on my way back. I originally came here to get a gift for a friend, so I picked up a variety box.

They offer boxes of 4, 6, or 8 scoops, so you can choose whatever suits you best.

Instead of dry ice, they pack it with a cold gel pack, which should keep it chilled for about 20 minutes—good to keep in mind if you’re planning to take it home.

I ended up buying a few for myself too… and honestly, I finished them all the same day lol. That’s how light and easy they are to eat!

It’s not super rich or creamy—instead, it has more of a refreshing, sorbet-like texture that just goes down so smoothly.

One of the more unique flavors they offer is lilikoi, which is what they call passion fruit in Hawaii. Passion fruit naturally has a mild, pleasant flavor, so this one’s also super easy to enjoy.

Coconut Glen’s ice cream is made without any artificial additives, so it’s a gentle, refreshing treat that’s safe for people with dairy or egg allergies, kids, and those following a vegan lifestyle.

If you’re traveling around Okinawa, why not swing by for a scoop during a beachside drive?

I hope this little recommendation helps make your Okinawa trip even more enjoyable!
